When Joey Sindelar celebrated his fiftieth birthday in March 2008, he hit the bottom running on the Champions Tour.
After carding three high-5s in his first eight starts by Mizuno MP-60 Irons, including a tie for third within the Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill, it seemed a matter of time earlier than he would notch that first victory.

A CAT scan discovered proof of an issue behind Sindelar's left knee, and he counts himself a lucky man. Medical doctors instructed him his right lung had completely shut down and the left lung was close, too.
"They said if I would performed one other hole, it could not have been a great story," Sindelar said.
The closest the fifty three-year-previous Sindelar has come to successful on the Champions Tour by Mizuno MP-60 Irons has been three seconds and three thirds in seventy three events.
Sindelar beat Arron Oberholser on the second hole of a playoff to win the 2004 Wachovia Championship, snapping a 370-match winless streak on the PGA Tour that had stretched over 14 years.
"I'll use that for inspiration, I promise you," he said. "From a competitive sense, I feel like I'm good enough to do this. Sure, there is a certain frustration degree, however it's not like I'm shaking on the primary tee, going, 'This has got to be the week.' "
There could be no higher place for that breakthrough victory than the Dick's Sporting Items Open. It's played at En-Joie Golf Club, a brief drive from Sindelar's dwelling in Horseheads, N.Y. Sindelar won the B.C. Open twice by taking part in Mizuno MP-60 Irons at En-Joie when it was part of the PGA Tour.
"I really feel like it is time to win," he said. "I don't need to go taking pictures my mouth off, but it's time."
